Versie L. Taylor and Cherrie L. Upchurch Scholarship Award
Two women who valued the importance of education and served faithfully in their community for many years.
These scholarships range in amounts from $100 to $500 and will be awarded to students in the Hampton Roads area.
To be considered all recipients must have:
1. Applied and been accepted to any two or four year college, trade school, technology program or culinary arts program
2. At least a 2.6 GPA on a 4.0 scale
3. Two recommendations from any of their high school teachers
4. One personal recommendation (cannot be a parent)
5. Active role in community through volunteering or church affiliation.
6. A 250 word essay on the following topic: As a young adult, I can help others within my community by….
Applications must be completed and returned with three references, transcripts and acceptance letters no later than April 3, 2010. The recipient will be notified by April 16, 2010 if they have been chosen for the scholarship. The “Dreams to Reality Banquet” for presentations will be held on May 1, 2010.
